The Song Remembers When: “Two Piña Coladas” – Garth Brooks

We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…

“Two Piña Coladas” is in the spotlight this week! It was written by Shawn Camp, Benita Hill, and Sandy Mason. Now, Benita tells the story of coming together on a cold day in February.  As with any dreary day, they started to fantasize about being on the beach, enjoying piña coladas – in fact, “two piña coladas, one in each hand.”

One of the writers, Sandy, pitched it to producer Allen Reynolds when they got done – that’s Garth Brooks’ longtime producer. Garth loved it much to the surprise of the writers because they didn’t really think of it as a “Garth song.” Well, they were wrong – “Two Piña Coladas” went to #1 in the spring of ’98!

And, it is one of the songs included in the new box set Garth Brooks: The Ultimate Collection!

So, this week, we remember “Two Piña Coladas” by Garth Brooks.
