This week, Karen Morrison of Lincoln, Maine, wrote us on Facebook to nominate the love of her life: retired Major John Nelson. She writes:

John Nelson has received the Purple Heart for protecting his troops. He served our country for 29 years, and now he has opened a non-profit veterans center called “The Gary Gordon Center.” The center helps veterans with everything from counseling to medical treatment!

I started the Warming Hearts soup kitchen in the area three years ago and that’s when John and I met. And, together we help veterans and the people in the area who are struggling to feed their families. We are best friends and enjoy life together while working hard to make a difference.

Thanks, Kix, and God bless our veterans!

Sincerely,
Karen Morrison

Kix’s Response:

Well, Karen, John sounds like an incredible hero, but you do as well!

Life is all about what you give and what you leave behind and clearly you both exemplify that!

So, this week’s Kidde Hero of the Week is not only Major John Nelson, but Karen Morrison, too! Thank you both for what you do for the veterans up in Maine.
