The Song Remembers When: “Pontoon” – Little Big Town

We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…

ACC guest host Phillip Sweet of Little Big Town recalls the group’s big hit “Pontoon:”

“This was our first number one song, from back in September of 2012 – “Pontoon.” It was written by Luke Laird, Natalie Hemby, and Barry Dean, and they are some of our most favorite people in town.

Luke and Natalie said that they got the idea when someone at their publishing company was listening to a song they wrote for Miranda Lambert called “Fine Tune.” And, they thought they heard “Pontoon.” So, Natalie called up Luke and Barry and said, ‘Let’s write that! Why not?!’

Then, they played it for us after they wrote the song. We heard they had so much fun writing the song that they were laughing hysterically in the writing room. We got to hear the song and instantly fell in love with it because it had such personality. And, the song not only became a number one but we took home the Grammy for Best Country Performance in 2013! It was just an unbelievable year and just an incredible song for us, and we still love performing it every night!”

So, this week’s Song Remembers When is Little Big Town and “Pontoon:”
