The Song Remembers When: “Rewind” – Rascal Flatts

We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…

Rascal Flatts reached number one with their song “Rewind” in May of 2014. It was the first time that they had hit the top of the charts after a two year absence. At the time, Joe Don Rooney said that it was pretty scary not having a hit at radio for two years, but it pushed them to fight.

“Rewind” was the lead single and title cut of their ninth studio album.  It was co-written by Chris DeStefano, Ashley Gorley, and Eric Paslay. And, it was the first Rascal Flatts song to be released that had the band credited as sole producers.

Jay DeMarcus was the first to hear the song and said that it jumped out of the speakers and the chorus was so catchy and hooky. He played it for Gary LeVox and Joe Don and they felt the same way… And, as far as the meaning of the song? Well, life just kind of goes by too fast. And, I think we can all relate to that one!
