Paula Wilhelm, out of Minneapolis, Minnesota, nominated Jake LaFerriere, an injured firefighter who saw a need in the community and stepped up to make a difference. Paula writes:
Dear Kix,

Jake was a Minnesota firefighter who suffered third and fourth degree burns while battling a house fire. While Jake was in the hospital, he met children in the burn unit who were going through the same painful treatment for their injuries.

It was after that experience that he went on to establish “Firefighters for Healing.” Their mission is to support children and burn survivors in ways insurance companies and caretakers are unable to. They supply materials and equipment to alleviate stress for children during their healing process while also helping with medical bills.

He is truly a superhero!

Signed,
Paula

Kix’s Response:

Well, first of all, I salute all of our firefighters out there – the bravest men and women in the country! And, Jake, good for you for taking an awful situation like your accident and turning that around to help these children!

Jake LaFerriere – our Kidde Hero of the Week!
