The Song Remembers When: “Humble and Kind” – Tim McGraw

We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…

Love this song… “Humble and Kind” was the second release off Tim McGraw’s album Damn Country Music. And, it became a number one for Tim in June of 2016.

Songwriter Lori McKenna said that she wrote this as a personal note to her five children. It came together while she was sitting in her living room after having just dropped the kids off at school. After the song was written that afternoon, she sang it into her phone, and she sent it to Tim. She said that she didn’t hear back right away, and it wasn’t until she saw him weeks later that he said, “Oh yeah, I’m cutting that song you sent me.”

Well, she said that after she heard his version, she was blown away at how big of a song he made it because it was just a little personal note to her family. Well, that little note would go on to win a Grammy and take home the 2016 CMA for Song of the Year!
