The Song Remembers When: “Tornado” – Little Big Town

We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…

In 2013, Little Big Town took the title track of their fifth studio album into the Top 5. The song “Tornado” was co-written by Natalie Hemby and London-based songwriter Delta Maid back in 2011.

Now, Natalie said that when they sat down to write, Delta had asked if the area got a lot of tornados. Natalie said “Yep”, and the two proceeded to watch tornado videos on YouTube. Those videos inspired the women to write the song.

When Natalie had a writing appointment with Little Big Town, she performed it for them, and Karen Fairchild loved it! Karen said that at the time they felt like a storm was brewing in their organization, like a tornado in a good way, which is why the song became the title of the album.

The song reached number two on our countdown back in 2013. So, this week’s The Song Remembers When is Little Big Town’s “Tornado:”
