The Song Remembers When: Rascal Flatts – “I Like the Sound of That”

We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…

In April of 2016, Rascal Flatts took “I Like the Sound of That” to number one!

The song was written in 2014 by Jesse Frasure, Meghan Trainor, and Shay Mooney. This was long before Shay had met Dan Smyers and they became Dan + Shay, and Meghan Trainor’s career as an artist had yet to take off.

Now, Shay said that he remembers calling Jesse and saying “Hey I’m a nobody but I’d like to write with you,” and Jesse said, “Let’s do it.”

The day they wrote this one, they had the groove first and then the title came. Jesse said that Megan was so shy but was very comfortable in the writing session.

Rascal Flatts had this one on the back burner for a while and finally decided to record it for their Rewind album. It became the album’s fourth single and the group’s 13th number one.

So, this week’s The Song Remembers When is Rascal Flatts and I Like the Sound of That.”
