The Song Remembers When: Dustin Lynch’s “Cowboys and Angels”

We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…

In 2012, Dustin Lynch made his debut with “Cowboys and Angels.” That song peaked at #2 on the Billboard chart.

Dustin said that he had been writing in Nashville for more than a year when he sat down to write with writers Tim Nichols and Josh Leo. It was the first time the three had written together, and Dustin said that he was really nervous because he was such a fan of both of these guys.

Well, he had the idea “cowboys and angels” for a while, and he hoped to write it that morning. But, when Tim asked, “Whatcha got?” Dustin said that he panicked and said, “I don’t really have anything.” So, Tim took out his book of ideas and said, “I think I might have something… how about this idea? ‘Cowboys and angels?’”  Dustin said that he about fell off the couch, and he took out his notes with the same title. He knew from that moment that this was going to be a special song. It was written that afternoon, and it went on to become Dustin’s debut hit.

So, this week’s The Song Remembers When is Dustin Lynch with “Cowboys and Angels.”
