The Song Remembers When: Eric Church – “Talladega”

We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…

In 2015, Eric Church landed at the top of the Countdown with “Talladega.” He co-wrote the song with Luke Laird – a big hit songwriter in town. And, the song wasn’t really about racing but more about the attachment to the memory that people have about going to a race.

Obviously, the inspiration came from an iconic race track. The guys were writing on Eric’s tour bus one day, and there was a race on TV. And, Eric started talking about the great memories he had about going to Talladega.

Luke said that people thought it was a joke, like the movie Talladega Nights, but it was no joke. The song is about real life. It was the fourth single from Eric’s The Outsiders album, and it became his fourth career number one.

So, here’s this week’s The Song Remembers When – Eric Church and “Talladega.”
