Throughout the week, our ACC Team searches through emails and news articles looking for someone who deserves to be the Kidde Hero of the Week…

This week, our Kidde Hero nomination comes from Lisa Reed. She writes:

Dear Kix,

I would like to nominate someone who dedicated his life to helping others. As a tow truck driver for 40 years, he worked all hours of the day and night, sometimes on the side of highways in the rain, snow, or ice. He put his life on the line to help those in need.

As a first responder to countless accidents, he helped in emergencies, witnessing horrors most will never know. In a job that receives very little glory or acknowledgment, he shined. He got one speeding ticket in his life, and it was for rushing to rescue a baby that was locked in a car on a 90 degree day.

I am proud to say this man was my father, Gary, and he is the reason that I have now dedicated my life to working in a children’s hospital. It is with intense sorrow that I tell you he passed away this June from a sudden heart attack. But, I know that his kindness and generosity will live on in all the lives he has touched.

Signed,
Lisa

Kix’s Response:

Lisa, thank you for writing, and your father sounds like a true hero. I think all of us should strive to live our life doing good things. I think it’s about what we leave behind, and clearly your father has done that.
