Throughout the week, our ACC Team searches through emails and news articles looking for someone who deserves to be the Kidde Hero of the Week…

With football season upon us, we thought we’d share a story about how some of the most competitive teams in college football came together for one of their own:

Austin Peay’s offensive lineman coach Joshua Eargle and his wife had racked up some big time debt after funding medical bills for their little girl named Landrey. Landrey was born with a rare genetic mutation, the first on record here in the States and only the fourth in the world. She’s undergone heart surgery and long hospital stays. She’s unable to speak and doctors said that she would never walk. Now, at age five, Landrey can communicate through hand gestures and she is walking.

A GoFundMe page was set up to offset the costs that the Eargles had built up through medical bills. They were living on credit and really at risk of losing it all. Well, that GoFundMe page surpassed its original 40 thousand and has now reached over 100 thousand dollars thanks to college football teams that have spread the word to their fans. Coaches from Tennessee, Georgia, and Texas A&M have all pitched in to help, and the Eargles have learned that the football community, as competitive as they are, are also family.

So, to Joshua and his family and the college football community, you are our Kidde Heroes… And, thanks for setting such a great example of what true sportsmanship is all about!
