In 2016, Dan + Shay released their second album Obsessed. There was no need to worry about any so-called “sophomore jinx” when the first single went straight to the top of the chart giving the guys their second Billboard number one. That song – “From the Ground Up” – was one of the most personal songs the duo had written.
Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney, along with Chris DeStefano, said that they wrote the song just after Dan lost his grandfather and Shay’s grandfather was in the hospital. The loss caused them to reflect on the life their grandfathers each had and how they had set an example on what marriage and love is supposed to be.
The song went number one back in September of 2016, and it’s this week’s The Song Remembers When – Dan + Shay’s “From the Ground Up.”
