Throughout the week, our ACC Team searches through emails and news articles looking for someone who deserves to be the Kidde Hero of the Week…

You may have caught this story on the CBS Evening News recently… It’s the story of Jaret Hucks in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina:

Jaret owns the Midtown Inn and Cottages, and he opened up his business for those people who were forced from their homes due to flooding. He allowed families and their pets to stay at his hotel for free until they could return to their own homes to get back on their feet. Everyone that stayed there got three free meals a day.

Word spread about Jaret’s goodwill and soon others started to donate food and other items to help. From diapers to ice to plenty of food, Jaret said that people came out of the woodwork and that he often receives cash donations to help offset the cost of giving away free hotel rooms. Jaret said that he was taught by his mother at an early age to “love thy neighbor.”

Kix’s Response:

Isn’t that an incredible story?! Somebody just doing good in their community. Jaret, from what I hear, has given away over 50 thousand dollars’ worth of services. And, I love that when people hear of his generosity, it inspires them to do what they can. What a great an example of being selfless!

So, Jaret Hucks of South Carolina, we’d like to recognize you as this week’s Kidde Hero.
