The Song Remembers When: Luke Combs’ “When It Rains It Pours”

We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…

Luke Combs heads into the ACMs as New Male Artist of the Year winner, which was announced last week… Now, his first five singles have all gone number one. One of those songs – “When It Rains It Pours” – was his second single to reach the top of the chart, and it was co-written by Luke, Ray Fulcher, and Jordan Walker.

Now, the three guys were out having drinks at a Nashville bar, and they decided to head back to Jordan’s place to try writing together. During the writing session, Luke was distracted. He kept texting his ex-girlfriend. It was at that point Jordan suggested that they forget about the song they were writing and write one about Luke’s ex.

Well, Luke had an idea for a song that he wanted to write about his breakup, but he thought it was just too sad. The guys all agreed that there were just too many heartbreak songs out there and thought about writing something in the same vein as a Brad Paisley comedy tune, something tongue-in-cheek. So, instead of crying in your beer, you find a stroke of good luck!

Well, this one was a big hit… a two-week number one for Luke, and it’s this week’s The Song Remembers When:
