Heroes of the Week: Nurses

Find out how you can nominate a “Hero of the Week” at the bottom of the page.

Throughout the week, our ACC Team searches through emails and news articles looking for someone who deserves to be the Hero of the Week…

This week, we received an email from Ralph Poland, out of Maine, and Ralph had a great idea – that we should dedicate our Hero story to all of the nurses around the country because this is, in fact, National Nurses Week.

Ralph told us that he had been hospitalized for four months after undergoing heart surgery.  It was during this time that he watched the nurses run from patient to patient, some enduring verbal abuse from patients who just didn’t know what they were saying. Through all of the hardships and the long hours, they were there for him, working round the clock.

He truly believes had it not been for the nursing staff that he wouldn’t have survived his ordeal. And, because he was so moved by their hard work, he has been inspired to pay it forward and now volunteers at his local hospitals rehab unit.

He would like to recognize nurses everywhere for being heroes to so many.

Kix’s Response:

Thank you, Ralph! And, you know what? You’re exactly right – that is one job that is under-appreciated and probably one of the hardest to do! Bless them and the patience they have to have just to deal with all of us when we fall ill…

So, to you nurses, we salute you as our heroes! Thank you for your hard work!
