The Song Remembers When: Kelsea Ballerini – “Legends”

We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…

In February of last year, Kelsea Ballerini reached number one for the fourth time in with “Legends,” a song she wrote with songwriters Hillary Lindsey and Forest Glen Whitehead.

Kelsea admits that when she was writing for her Unapologetically album, she was writing from the perspective of a broken heart. She felt she had enough dark, angst-ridden songs, so her goal in that writing session was to write a break up song about looking back on a relationship fondly, something more nostalgic, and “Legends” was born.

At the time Kelsea released it, she was in a much different place. Kelsea was on her way to getting married to fellow singer-songwriter Morgan Evans. Because of that, the song changed meanings to her – it was no longer about a break up but about a deep love.

Fans obviously heard their own love stories played out in this one and gave Kelsea another number one record. And, it’s this week’s The Song Remembers When – Kelsea Ballerini with “Legends.”
