The Song Remembers When: Midland – “Burn Out”

We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…

Last year, Midland had their second Top 5 hit with “Burn Out.” The song was written in the same writing session as their first hit, “Drinkin’ Problem.” Both of those songs were written by the trio, along with their producer Shane McAnally and songwriter Josh Osborne.

Lead vocalist Mark Wystrach said that he saw “Burn Out” as a sister song to “Drinkin’ Problem.” He could easily see how the character in the first song wind up as the character in “Burn Out.” As for the production, well, it played right into what the band was all about – that retro country sound. Mark felt that it had that Dean Dillon, George Strait kind of sound from the ‘80s.

Well, the fans responded and the song reached just inside the Top 5 last year. It’s this week’s The Song Remembers When – Midland and “Burn Out.”
