This week’s hero is a young man who stopped a potential school shooting. Eight-year-old Blake Johnson, who goes to elementary school in Tampa, Florida, was in the boys’ bathroom when one of his classmates pulled out a loaded 9mm pistol from his backpack. The boy pointed the gun at the wall and told Blake that if he told anyone, he’d shoot him.

Although scared, Blake didn’t listen and ran to get help. He flagged down a security guard at the school who secured the gun and the boy.

Blake said that he was taught that if you see something, you say something, and he did just that. Blake’s mom, Lainey, said that she’s very proud of her son for his bravery and because he knew exactly what to do by getting help from an adult.

Kix’s Response:

Man, unfortunately, stories of kids and guns are becoming all too common. But, kids need to know that they need to speak up and be ready to act if the time comes.

So, Blake – at just eight years old, you took the initiative – you are our ACC Hero of the Week.
