Kix TV: Dan + Shay (2019)

When you take a look at an artist’s discography, you’ll notice albums that served as turning points when it comes to their career, like Keith Urban’s Golden Road or Eric Church’s Chief. It’s a project where they reached the next level of success, and for Dan + Shay, that happened with their self-titled third album. All three singles from that album hit the top of our chart, and both “Tequila” and “Speechless” had significant crossover success. “Tequila” also earned the guys their first Grammy Award, as well as Single and Song of the Year honors at the ACM Awards.

With their latest single, Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney continue to build on that success. In its first week of release, “10,000 Hours” started off with a bang as it tallied historic numbers for a country song in the streaming world. It marked the duo’s highest debut on our chart, and the first appearance on the country chart for “10,000 Hours” collaborator Justin Bieber.

On the eve of the song’s release, Dan + Shay stopped by to catch up with Kix to talk about the creation of the song and just how it ended up becoming a collaboration with Justin Bieber. They also discussed attending Justin’s wedding, their respective engagement stories to wives Abby and Hannah, and the importance of evolving your music without alienating your fans.
