The Song Remembers When: Carrie Underwood – “Southbound”

We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…

Carrie Underwood’s Top 5 hit from last year, “Southbound,” was featured on her Cry Pretty album. It was the party tune for that project. It was written by Carrie, David Garcia, and Josh Miller, and it was the last song to go on the album.

For most writers, writing sad, heartbreak songs really comes easier than the party kind. For Carrie, the challenge was making sure the characters, like Katie in the song, sounded like they were having fun. At first, some of the lines they tried made Katie sound sad, but in the end they got it right.

Carrie debuted the song at the ACM Awards last year. It went on to reach number three on the chart and became a fan favorite. And, it’s this week’s The Song Remembers When – Carrie Underwood and “Southbound.”
