The Back Forty: Richard Sterban

Welcome to The Back Forty where we highlight artists who might walk the line outside of the country chart with their music.

Richard Sterban is the man behind that low voice country fans know and love as a part of The Oak Ridge Boys. That "oom-pa-pa-oom-pa-pa-mau-mau" in "Elvira"… yeah, that's him. But, long before he sang that famous line, Richard honed his vocals touring with J.D. Sumner and the Stamps Quartet and the King of Rock and Roll Elvis Presley. He chronicles it all in his book From Elvis to Elvira, My Life on Stage. It's a must-read for any fan of the Oak Ridge Boys.

Watch as Kix visits with Richard as he recalls his time working with Elvis, how he ended up as part of the Oaks and some special words of encouragement from Johnny Cash.
