This week, we take a look at Justin Moore’s “If Heaven Wasn’t So Far Away:”

Songwriters Dallas Davidson, Rob Hatch and Brett Jones got together to write. Dallas had seen a little girl on television say, “Heaven is so far away,” and it stuck with him. So, all three guys started talking about the loved ones they’d lost over the years, and how they’d wish they could see them again… From there, the song seemed to write itself and they knew that they had a hit on their hands!

Rhett Akins (yeah, Thomas Rhett’s dad!) originally recorded the tune in 2006, but Justin Moore covered the song on his Outlaws Like Me album. In 2011, he released it as the lead single off that project and it went all the way to number one.
