The Song Remembers When: “Different For Girls” – Dierks Bentley and Elle King

We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…

This week’s song was written by Shane McAnally and JT Harding.

JT had two different friends going through breakups – one was a girl who told JT that she couldn’t let the breakup tear her world apart; the other was a guy friend who said he was partying every night trying to get over his breakup. And, that’s when JT came up with the title – “Different For Girls.”  He shared the idea and the title with Shane McAnally, who almost immediately threw out the line: “When the going gets tough, guys can just act tough,” which brought the whole song together!

It was Shane’s idea to pitch the song to Dierks Bentley… He knew it might strike a chord since Dierks has daughters.

Well, Dierks released that song earlier this summer and it features pop singer Elle King!  It became his 15th #1…and it earned him a CMA nomination for Musical Event of the Year.

So, this week, we remember “Different for Girls” by Dierks Bentley and Elle King:
