The Back Forty: John Oates

You never know who’ll walk into our studios – welcome to The Back Forty. This is where we highlight artists who walk the line outside of today’s country chart with their music, as well as the folks who have made an impact on country music – yesterday and today.

“Sara Smile,” “She’s Gone,” “Maneater” are just a few of the big hits from the legendary duo Hall & Oates. Throughout the late 1970s and 1980s, Darryl Hall and John Oates epitomized blue-eyed soul music. And, their success lead them all the way to membership in the Rock and Roll and the American Songwriters Hall of Fames.

These days, in addition to their career together, both Darryl and John pursue their own solo projects. John stopped by to visit with Kix this fall about one such recording that has a holiday flavor.

Watch their visit in this edition of The Back Forty. John reflects on his career as part of Hall & Oates and recalls what it was like for this New York native to make the move to Music City. Plus, he shares a few Christmas traditions and more.

John Oates’ “Santa Be Good To Me,” with the Grammy-nominated group The Time Jumpers, is available for download via iTunes or other digital music retailers. The song is also featured on a special limited edition holiday vinyl disc with “Go Where I Send Thee” on the “B-side.” For more, visit JohnOates.com.
