Throughout the week, our ACC team searches through emails and news articles looking for someone who deserves to be the Kidde Hero of the Week.

This week, Captain Tommy LaRonge wrote in to nominate Misty Wells from Clearwater, Florida. He writes:

Misty is the co-founder of a nonprofit called A Reel Future – something Misty and I started three years back.

The nonprofit works with kids in group foster care. We take them fishing and teach them about conservation. Misty has taken over a thousand foster kids fishing and has pretty much has carried the weight of the organization as I had to leave the country for work. Misty never missed a trip and raised the funds for these trips all on her own.

These kids have been through so much and to give them a day on the water and watch them catch their very first fish is a good memory for them and brings so many smiles to their faces.

She is a light in their lives and hero to them!

Thanks,
Captain Tommy LaRonge

Guest Host Suzanne Alexander’s Response:

Thank you, Tommy, for writing in, and it sounds like you and Misty started something great! Getting kids out in nature can give them a better perspective on life, and it sounds like they might not have the opportunity being foster care. People like you guys make the difference in their future for sure!
