Rene Matula emailed us her Hero nomination. She writes:

Dear Kix,

My hero is my husband Mark. He lost his father 50 years ago in July of ’65 while on a reconnaissance mission over hostile areas in South Vietnam. Mark was only nine at the time, and he grew up without a father, which means he overcame many challenges in his life.

We are happily married and have two beautiful daughters, and we were able to take them to see their grandfather’s gravesite in Washington, D.C. Our daughters were very moved on that trip. My oldest telling me that she was so sad for her Daddy.

Well, fast forward to today and that same daughter is now a college graduate and is doing an internship with the Boot Campaign, a non-profit organization promoting patriotism for America and our military community.

Thank you, Kix.

Signed,
Rene

Suzanne’s Response:

Well, Rene, it sounds like you have a beautiful family, and your daughter is clearly inspired to help out the men and women of our military because of watching her father suffer such a great loss.

I’m sure your husband’s father would be proud to see his influence on his own grandchildren. Thank you for writing in.
