The Song Remembers When: “Love Me Like You Mean It” – Kelsea Ballerini

We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…

Kelsea Ballerini made her debut back in October of 2014 with the release of her song “Love Me Like You Mean It.”

She co-wrote the song with Josh Kerr, Forest Whitehead, and Lance Carpenter.  Lance tells the story that he and Forest went to Black River records to write with two staff writers Josh and Kelsea.  Somebody, during that meeting, said “love me like you mean it,” and that was all they needed. They wrapped up the song at 12:30 in the morning. Kelsea sang the demo.

They were trying to come up with an artist to pitch it to because at the time Kelsea wasn’t signed as an artist. But, a year later, she signed one, and fortunately the song was still available.

Well, Kelsea said that she knew she wanted it to be her first single because it had that “confident-girl stance.” She took the song to the top of our countdown in June of 2015.

Here’s this week’s The Song Remembers When – Kelsea Ballerini and “Love Me Like You Mean It:”
