The Song Remembers When: “If I Didn’t Have You” – Thompson Square

We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…

In 2013, the husband-wife duo, Thompson Square had just won their second ACM Vocal Duo of the Year award. Now, that same month, they reached number one for the second time with their very personal song “If I Didn’t Have You.”

Keifer and Shawna Thompson said that they were inspired to write the song after Shawna’s father passed away, and as it happened, Paul Jenkins, one of the cowriters on the tune, had just lost his grandfather. Keifer said that the song came together pretty fast because it felt more like a therapy session. Once they recorded it and listened back, they knew they really had something special.

The day the song reached number one was a very special moment for Shawna because it was her father’s birthday. So, this week’s The Song Remembers When is Thompson Square’s “If I Didn’t Have You:”
