The Song Remembers When: “God Gave Me You” – Blake Shelton

We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…

Blake Shelton’s second single from his Red River Blue album shot to the top of the chart in October of 2011 – “God Gave Me You.” And, that song was written by Dave Barnes who said that he wrote it as a “kind of thank you to his wife and God for putting them together.” Dave recorded the song and it started to receive airplay on Christian radio.

Now, Blake Shelton happened to be driving home to his place in Oklahoma and he was skipping through the stations and he heard “God Gave Me You.” And, he says that he felt that there was a reason why he heard that song at the moment, he felt it captured what he was feeling at that moment in his life. Well, he immediately downloaded the song to his phone and called his producer Scott Hendricks.

The song went on to become Blake’s fifth consecutive number one and his tenth overall.
