The Song Remembers When: “Gettin’ You Home (The Black Dress Song)” – Chris Young

We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…

In the fall of 2009, Chris Young reached number one for the first time, not only as an artist but as a songwriter!

He co-wrote this song with writers Cory Batten and Kent Blazy. You might’ve heard Kent’s name before… he wrote a bunch of Garth stuff. Anyway, Cory and Kent both had hits, so Chris admits that he felt like the odd man out in this writing session.

He said that they spent the morning trying to come up with something without a lot of success, so, like writers often do, they decided to take a break for lunch. When they came back, they got to talking about stuff and that’s when the magic happened. Chris said that this song was written in about 45 minutes.

It was the second single from his album The Man I Want to Be. It was also his first number one – 2009’s “Gettin’ You Home:”
