We came across this week’s story on CNN about Oklahoma City resident Blake Rockwell.

Now, Blake was inspired to help sick children get involved in sports after losing his older brother to a congenital heart defect.

Blake started to volunteer at the hospital where his brother was treated. And, one thing he said he noticed was that all the kids were into sports even though they didn’t have the ability to play due to their illnesses. That’s when Blake came up with the non-profit called “Special Spectators.”

This organization has given more than ten thousand seriously ill children all access, VIP experiences at college sporting events around the country. Prime seats! Behind-the-scenes tours! A walk onto the court or field where they receive a standing ovation!

Blake said that some of the kids are in treatment for years and this really restores their spirit as their tanks start to run low.

Kix’s Response:

Man, what a great idea! This is something that was started back in 2002. And, I can only imagine the thrill these kids feel when they get the call to go a big game! What a unique experience!

Blake Rockwell, you are this week’s Kidde Hero of the Week!!!
