For our Year-End Special, we’d like to pay tribute to Troy Gentry who lost his life in a helicopter crash back on September 8th. It was a devastating, very unexpected loss for all of us.
In 2001, Troy and Eddie toured with Ronnie and I on Brooks & Dunn’s Neon Circus Tour. And, the next year, in 2002, they reached the Top 5 on the Billboard chart for the third time with their song “My Town.” It was written by Jeffery Steele and Reed Nielsen.
It was shortly after 9/11, and Jeffery had been driving through Colorado thinking about that horrible event which just happened the month before. He wanted to write something about the pride of people in small towns and how people come together during hard times.
When Montgomery Gentry heard this song, they immediately wanted to record it. And, they decided to make it the title cut off their third album. The song became a signature one for Montgomery Gentry… So, this week’s The Song Remembers When is my buddy Troy Gentry and Eddie Montgomery with “My Town.”
