The Song Remembers When: Thomas Rhett – “Die a Happy Man”

We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…

In 2015, Thomas Rhett released what would become his fifth consecutive number one single. And, this  wasn’t just any number one; it was a six-week number one called “Die a Happy Man.”

Well, up until this point, Thomas had never written a song about his wife or for his wife, Lauren. So, while he was writing for his album Tangled Up, he told his cowriters Sean Douglas and Joe Spargur that he was thinking of a romantic song.

Thomas was in Arkansas on his bus, drinking coffee, when the guys started talking about their wives. All three writers said that they were in the mood to write a song for the ones they loved. They finished it that day, and Thomas actually performed it live that night in concert. He said that the fan response was incredible!

The tune went on to win the ACM and CMA Single of the Year, and it was the most played song of 2016.

This week’s The Song Remembers When – Thomas Rhett and “Die a Happy Man.”
