Throughout the week, our ACC Team searches through emails and news articles looking for someone who deserves to be the Kidde Hero of the Week…

K9 Flash was just nine months old when she was found in an animal shelter in the state of Washington. She had no home, no name, and no family.

Washington State Patrol Academy was starting a Narcotics K9 course back in 200,5 and they needed dogs. So, they evaluated shelter dogs in the area for their ability to hunt and smell. Flash was chosen to be a part of this class just one day before she was to be euthanized. She excelled in all aspects and was the only dog to score 100 percent on her certification.

During her career, she had over three thousand deployments and twenty-two hundred narcotic related finds and seizures! She retired in 2013.

Heroes like Flash, once retired, lose all funding from the agencies they served. Because of that, Flash has inspired her handler Jason Johnson to start a nonprofit called Project K9 Hero that will help these canines with medical assistance, food and shelter.

By the way, Flash even has her own children’s book and travels the country visiting schools. Isn’t that cool?

Kix’s Response:

Well, I can think of no better person – or dog, in this case – that deserves to be our Kidde Hero of the Week!

Flash, you sound amazing! What a career you’ve had! And, thanks to your handler Jason for starting up Project K9 Hero.
