A lot has changed for Dan + Shay since they first visited our studio four years ago. As far as their career goes, the duo now has three chart-topping hits (and working on another with their latest single “Tequila”). And, the guys recently logged a couple of firsts: their first award for Duo Video of the Year at the 2018 CMT Music Awards and a performing spot inside the stadium during this year’s CMA Fest. (Trust us, that’s a big deal for artists.)
While those career-growing achievements are impressive, the biggest changes for Dan + Shay are in their personal lives. Both Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney got married last year. And, Shay became a dad to little Asher James. Those life moments have had the most impact as they navigate the difficult waters of balancing career and family.
As they release their third album, Dan + Shay stopped by to catch up with Kix. They discuss the challenge of elevating your game as songwriters and the dangers of comparing yourself to others.
