In 2012, the Zac Brown Band would achieve their eighth number one with “Keep Me in Mind.” This song was co-written by Zac Brown, Wyatt Durette, and Nic Cowan, and it all started with the chorus. They had written the chorus and then put it away for years.
They finally revisited the song after “Chicken Fried” became a big hit for the band. The guys were all on the road during that time with the band was touring heavily. During one of the tour stops in Texas, Wyatt met a girl. That girl was dating someone else, but he told her to “keep him in mind.”
He brought that half-written song back out and wrote the verse, and the band ended up recording that song for their second album You Get What You Give. Not only was it a hit, but Wyatt did eventually get the girl!
