Kix TV: Dolly Parton

Dolly Parton has long-surpassed the criteria required to become a cultural icon. Over the past 40 years, 110 of her songs have charted, with 26 of those reaching number one on the Billboard country charts. She’s sold over 100 million albums worldwide. She’s won eight Grammys, ten CMAs, five ACMs, and is a member of both the Country Music and Songwriters Hall of Fame (When you write over three thousand songs, that’s something, folks!)… And, those are just some of the impressive numbers found in her illustrious career. That’s not even touching the fact that this woman started her very own theme park, starred in countless movies, and impacted so many lives with her philanthropic efforts. Frankly, she’s a national treasure who never forgot where she came from.

That concept of not forgetting your roots is one that was instilled in Dolly by her mother, a woman who had the vision that her daughter was destined for special things. In this conversation with Kix, Dolly recalls how that upbringing influenced her life and music. She shares stories about her mom and what it was like growing up in the Pentecostal church.

Also, in this visit, Dolly talks at length about two of her latest projects. Dolly Parton’s Heartstrings is an eight-episode series based on songs from her catalog set to air on Netflix next year. But, first up is Dumplin’, a film premiering on Netflix December 7th. The movie stars and is produced by Jennifer Aniston and Dolly’s music plays a key role in the story. The soundtrack, available now, features collaborations with Miranda Lambert, Mavis Staples, and Sia, just to name a few. And, in this Kix TV, Dolly goes in-depth on working with Sia, along with songwriter-producer Linda Perry, on the project.
