The Song Remembers When: Florida Georgia Line’s “God, Your Mama, And Me” featuring the Backstreet Boys

We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…

In 2017, Florida Georgia Line teamed up with the Backstreet Boys for a number one “God, Your Mama, And Me.”

Now, Brian Kelley and Tyler Hubbard had already recorded this song, but it hadn’t been released yet. They had met the Backstreet Boys in the past. And, when FGL played “God, Your Mama, And Me” for the group’s Nick Carter, he loved that song so much that the collaboration was born.

It was written by Josh Kear, Gordie Sampson, and Hillary Lindsey. Josh had been thinking about being a father to his six-year-old little girl and that’s how the title came up. Gordie and Hillary felt the idea was universal. It could be about anyone you love unconditionally. In fact, Gordie thought that word – “unconditionally” – was the perfect rhyming companion to the song’s title.

And, for FGL’s Tyler Hubbard, the song represented love and spiritualism, and he felt like those kinds of songs were very rare to find, so they jumped at the chance to record it for their Dig Your Roots album.

This week’s The Song Remembers When: Florida Georgia Line and the Backstreet Boys with “God, Your Mama and Me.”
