Hero of the Week: Officer Steven Linville

Throughout the week, our ACC Team searches through emails and news articles looking for someone who deserves to be the Hero of the Week… Find out how you can nominate a Hero of the Week at the bottom of the page.

Teresa Linville of Kentucky wrote in to nominate her stepson Steven as our Hero this week.

Teresa says that Steven has always wanted to serve his community. He was a volunteer fireman. He has also worked as a paramedic. But, now Steven is a part of the Falmouth Police Department.

Last month, as kids were just getting started on their summer breaks, there was an incident at Licking River, just north of Falmouth, Kentucky. Two brothers, ages 12 and 17, were enjoying their time on the water when the youngest boy fell into a part of the river that pulled him under. His brother quickly went into action by jumping in to try to save him, and it’s at that point when Officer Linville arrived on the scene.

Officer Linville jumped in after the boys, and he was able to grab the 12-year-old who was struggling the most.  He pulled him up to the shore as the older brother followed. The young boy was going in and out of consciousness, and Officer Linville remembers yelling to him, “Stay with me, buddy!” When the ambulance arrived, the boy was conscious and brought to Children’s Hospital where he made a complete recovery.

Both brothers are now doing fine. And, Officer Linville says that he just did what any officer would do; he just happened to be in the right place at the right time.

Kix’s Response:

Well, sure our men and women in blue take the oath to protect and serve, but we should never take them for granted. They are constantly putting themselves in harm’s way and they are true heroes.

So, to Officer Steven Linville of the Falmouth Police Department, we salute you as this week’s ACC Hero!
