Hero of the Week: Father Jim Sichko

Throughout the week, our ACC Team searches through emails and news articles looking for someone who deserves to be the Hero of the Week… Find out how you can nominate a Hero of the Week at the bottom of the page.

This week, we’ve got a story from Harlan, Kentucky, about a group of out-of-work miners.

Well, it seems a coal company filed for bankruptcy leaving their employees without pay. A Catholic priest Father Jim Sichko, of Lexington, heard about the out-of-work miners, and he knew that he had to do something to help.

Father Sichko, who is the grandson of a Pennsylvania coal miner, felt an immediate connection to the men. He also said that there’s nothing worse than preaching the word of God and not taking action to do something about it.

So, Father Sichko wrote over 20 thousand dollars in checks to help the miners with their bills – that money came from his own personal account. The miners and their families are extremely grateful to him for the help, calling him an answer to their prayers.

Kix’s Response:

Man, that is a hard life, and I know those families continue to struggle. There’s a court battle going on now and I hope things are resolved quickly.

Our thoughts are with them for sure… And, to Father Jim Sichko, who is one man making a difference, we’d like to recognize you as this week’s Hero.
