The Song Remembers When: Thomas Rhett – “Marry Me”

We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…

In March of 2018, Thomas Rhett scored his 10th number one single with the song “Marry Me.” It was co-written by Thomas, his producer Jesse Frasure, Shane McAnally, and Ashley Gorley.

Thomas was the one who had the idea of “what if” when it came to his marriage with his wife Lauren. As in, what if he never went up to her to tell her how he felt all those years?

Thomas had met Lauren when they were in elementary school. When they were 15, they tried dating, but it was short lived and Lauren started dating someone else. Well, time went by and before things got too serious for Lauren and this other guy, Thomas worked up the nerve to tell her he was in love with her and had been ever since seventh grade.

The song is a fantasy about what would happen if he never worked up that courage. He admits that it’s a pretty sad thought and is so thankful it didn’t end up this way, but heck, it made for a great song and a two-week number one!

This week’s The Song Remembers When is Thomas Rhett with “Marry Me.”
