This week’s hero story is an emotional one…
Chris Barrington, a 30-year-old man with special needs, was found walking along a highway in Waco, Texas. When the police found him, they learned his father was sick with stage four cancer. Chris had no one to care for him and just wandered out the door.
When the police asked him where he lived, the only name that he could recall was Mrs. Girard, who happened to be his middle school teacher. She taught him for four years, but she hadn’t seen him in a very long time. The police reached out to her and told her Chris’ story. They told her that he would wind up in an institution, and she felt compelled to take him in.
Chris’ father eventually passed on August 1st, and Mrs. Girard is applying for legal guardianship. She’s learned that Chris never had a birthday party or birthday present and had never celebrated Christmas or Thanksgiving. She and her family plan to give him all of that.

What an amazing story of love! And, clearly, she made an impression on him for him to recall her name after almost 20 years. He was right – she sounds like an amazing woman!
