The Song Remembers When: Billy Currington – “We Are Tonight”

We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…

Billy Currington released the title track of his fifth album, “We Are Tonight,” back in November of 2013, and by August of the next year, Billy had his eighth number one.

It was written by Sam Hunt, Marc Beeson, and Josh Osborne with the intention of being a “stadium-sing-along.” Sam recalls that the trio were writing a different tune that day. They took a break and came back, and that’s when Sam couldn’t get the “whoa, whoa” part out of his head. Josh started playing guitar to that and that’s when they started chanting “we are, we are tonight.”

Billy had just teamed up with producer Dann Huff to record his new album, and it was Dan who sent the song to Billy. After his third time hearing it, Billy called his producer to say that he wanted to cut it.

“We Are Tonight” has definitely become a sing-along song for fans when they hear Billy close out his concerts with this one!

It’s this week’s The Song Remembers When… Billy Currington with “We Are Tonight.”
