The Song Remembers When: Kenny Chesney – “Save It For A Rainy Day”

We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…

Kenny Chesney’s album The Big Revival had four back-to-back number ones including “Save It For A Rainy Day.” The song was written by Old Dominion’s Brad Tursi and Matthew Ramsey, along with the late songwriter Andrew Dorff.

Matt remembers that the idea for the song came to him while he was in the shower. He said that he had the idea of taking a heartbreak and tucking it away. He took the idea to the session with Brad and Andrew and they loved it.

They wrote the song in about 45 minutes. After they finished it, they thought Kenny Chesney would be a perfect match for the song. Well, it turns out that he was! Kenny called it a “wake up song” for himself and his fans. He loved the idea that we can choose to have a bad day or a good day.

Ironically, Kenny chose Old Dominion to open up for his stadium shows. And, during those shows, Matt and Brad found themselves singing the song they wrote for Kenny on stage at Gillette Stadium. It was a pretty surreal moment for the band!

So, this week’s The Song Remembers When is from 2015 – Kenny Chesney and his three-week number one “Save It For A Rainy Day.”
