The Song Remembers When: Maren Morris – “My Church”

We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…

Maren Morris was a songwriter in Nashville for a few years before she got her big break as an artist. Her songs were getting recorded by artists like Tim McGraw and Kelly Clarkson. But, when Maren wrote “My Church” in 2015, she knew instantly that this was one she needed to keep for herself. She co-wrote the song with her producer, the late Busbee.

The song idea came to her while she was driving by herself, listening to music in California. She was having such a good time, and she thought to herself: “This was her church.” Maren recorded and released the song without a record label. And, it didn’t go unnoticed. The song earned more than two million streams and that’s when record labels came calling.

In 2016, the song became a Top 10 hit, and it would win the Grammy for Best Country Performance. It’s this week’s The Song Remembers When… Maren Morris with “My Church.”
