With Dan + Shay about to kick off their first-ever arena tour, let’s look back at where it all began for the duo. In 2013, Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney made their debut with the summer love song “19 You + Me.” The guys wrote the song with songwriter/producer Danny Orton.
During the writing session, Shay recalls that they were talking about wanting to come up with a love song, and the duo wanted to draw from their own personal experiences but also make it relatable. They started throwing out lines and the song became a nostalgic look at those teenage years.
“19 You + Me” would go on to become the duo’s first hit, peaking just outside of the Top 10, and helped introduce their music to country fans.
