The Song Remembers When – Old Dominion: “No Such Thing As A Broken Heart”

We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…

In 2017, Old Dominion released the first song off their album Happy Endings. That song – “No Such Thing as a Broken Heart” – would go on to become the band’s third career Billboard Country Airplay number one. The song was written by band members Matthew Ramsey, Trevor Rosen, and Brad Tursi, along with a well-known songwriter Jesse Frasure.

The guys said that it was kind of an impromptu get-together on the back of their bus. They sat down with no real direction or idea for a song, and then Matthew threw out the question: “I wonder if ‘Jack & Diane’ ever made it?” referring to John Mellencamp’s classic song. He said that he didn’t even know what he meant when he said that, but it was the starting point for the song. And, before they knew it, there were performing that song at the 2017 ACM Awards.

So, this week’s The Song Remembers When is Old Dominion’ “No Such Thing as a Broken Heart.”
