Hero of the Week: Arthur Kifer

Throughout the week, our ACC Team searches through emails and news articles looking for someone who deserves to be the Hero of the Week… Find out how you can nominate a Hero of the Week at the bottom of the page.

Barbara Monaco wrote in to nominate her father Arthur Kifer. She writes:

Dear Kix,

My dad just turned 79. I knew he was a great father, but I never really knew that he was a real hero until my mom passed in 2015.

You see, my mom and dad fostered kids my whole life, kids that I consider to this day as my siblings – some stayed for a while, some just a short time.

When my mom died, there was a foster child that came to my mom’s funeral – keep in mind that 30 years had passed, so the last time I saw this man he was a teenager.  He had become a truck driver and left his job in Nevada to make the trek to Pittsburgh to pay his respects to my family. He told me that although he lived with us for just a few short years, my parents saved his life.

So, my dad may not have done some heroic worldly things, but he definitely saved the lives of many kids. Arthur Kifer is a hero to me and so many others.

Signed,
Barbara

Kix’s Response:

Well, Barbara, this is a great story and truly inspiring. We don’t have to save the world, just the ones that live in it. And, your father Arthur, and your mom too, clearly did right by so many.
