In March 2016, Kelsea Ballerini enjoyed her second number one with “Dibs.” She co-wrote the song with Josh Kerr, Ryan Griffin, and Jason Duke. And, it was the second single from her debut album For The First Time.
Kelsea said that the song wasn’t inspired by anyone in particular; she just had this flirty, fun theme in her mind. She had the title stored in her phone for some time, so she brought the idea to her writing session.
According to Kelsea, the song came together in about 45 minutes, and the part that really just fell out was the chorus, especially when they started adding those “hey’s.” All the writers agreed this had a great, hooky vibe!
And, we all know that Kelsea went on to name her dog after this one… It’s this week’s The Song Remembers When – Kelsea Ballerini with “Dibs.”
